Refunds & pass promise
Last updated September 28, 2026
In short
- No change-of-mind refunds: we don't refund a plan because you changed your mind or stopped using Road Coach.
- Free extension (pass promise): if you take your state's knowledge test while your plan is active and don't pass, send us the official DMV result within 14 days and we extend your access by 60 days for free, again after each failed try, until you pass.
- Money back (pass guarantee): the same, plus you reached the guarantee grade of 98% (49 of 50) on our Master exam on or before your test day. Then we refund the full price of your plan.
- Two different grades: passing the Master exam at the DMV pass mark (for example 40 of 50 in New Jersey) is not enough for money back; you need 98%.
What counts as proof
Proof is your official result from the DMV or MVC showing that you did not pass: the result slip, notice or letter from the DMV/MVC, with your name, the test date and that the knowledge test was not passed. Email a photo or scan of it to support@roadcoach.ai within 14 days of the test, with your claim reference in the subject. A screenshot of anything else (another app, a practice test, a message) is not proof.
Free extension (pass promise)
If you take your state's official driver knowledge (permit) test while your 2-week or 2-month plan is active and don't pass:
- Start the claim in the app under Me › Plan ("I didn't pass: make a claim", then "Free extension (60 days)"). The app gives you a claim reference.
- Within 14 days of the test, email a photo or scan of your official DMV result (see "What counts as proof") to support@roadcoach.ai with the claim reference in the subject.
- We extend your access by 60 days at no cost.
- If you take the test again during the extension and still don't pass, send the new result and we extend again, until you pass.
The lifetime family plan never expires, so there is nothing to extend.
Money back (pass guarantee)
We refund the full price of your plan when all of these are true:
- You took your state's official knowledge test while your plan was active, and did not pass.
- On or before the test day, you reached the guarantee grade on the Master exam: 98% or better (49 of 50 questions right; if your state's question bank has fewer than 50 questions, 98% of them, rounded up). Only a Master exam our server issued and graded counts: it runs online, with a 60-minute time limit.
- Within 14 days of the test, you start the claim in the app under Me › Plan ("I didn't pass: make a claim", then "Money back") and email the official DMV result as described above.
The Master exam has two separate grades, shown side by side in the app. Passed means you reached the DMV's own pass mark, the same as the real test (for example 40 of 50, 80%, in New Jersey). The guarantee grade is 98%. Passing the Master exam at the DMV pass mark, even many times, is not enough for money back: you need the guarantee grade. You can take the Master exam as often as you like, and the app shows your best score and what you still need.
One refund per purchase, claimed by the person who paid for it. We refund the full price you paid to your original payment method; refunds usually arrive within 5-10 business days, depending on your bank. When a refund is issued, the plan's access ends. The lifetime family plan is covered on the same terms for the person who bought it: we refund its price, and access ends for everyone on the plan. Family members who joined the plan cannot claim money back for it.
